This is how I usually introduce each episode of the podcast. Allow me to briefly introduce myself as well. I am Javier Alcántara, the host of Radio ELE and a Spanish teacher with over 20 years of experience. I currently live and work as a teacher in Munich, Germany
Why a podcast for learning Spanish?
Because I love podcasts. It’s a format that fascinates me, and I listen to them daily to stay informed, entertain myself, and also learn.
It is also a fantastic way to practice Spanish. I am convinced that listening daily to content that interests us is a crucial aspect of making progress with a language.
In addition, podcasts allow us, better than any other format, to integrate listening into our daily routines: cooking, walking, washing the dishes, exercising, taking the dog for a walk, taking out the trash… We can listen to them wherever and whenever we want.
Acquire a language in a natural way
The intention of Radio ELE is to provide engaging content in authentic yet comprehensible language. Daily exposure to a large amount of real language samples allows one to acquire a language naturally, much like how we learned our native language. This philosophy inspires the entire project.
I aim to offer the kind of material that I would recommend to my students and that I would also like to find myself when learning other languages.
I believe that this kind of content is much more effective than other options such as textbooks, series with subtitles, or mobile apps for practicing grammar or vocabulary.
Why is it called Radio ELE?
ELE simply means «Español como Lengua Extranjera» (Spanish as a Foreign Language), and it is the discipline that deals with teaching and learning Spanish as a second language
On the other hand, I think I love podcasts so much because I have always been passionate about radio, and a podcast is ultimately a new way of doing radio.
